Detailed Solution

The Ministry of Labour sets the minimum wage in India.
The minimum wage is the least remuneration a worker should receive for the work performed during a given period. The minimum amount will allow the worker to meet his most basic needs and provide education, medical requirements and some level of comfort. India is a federal country, and therefore subjects for legislation are divided between the Central and State government. However, the issue of wages is in the jurisdiction of the Central and State governments. Each State government's Ministry of Labour determines the minimum wage level within its state, and the Ministry of Labour of the Central government determines the same for central government employees.
