The olive press provided the model of the Gutenberg press.
Gutenberg belonged to an agricultural estate. He was well acquainted with the wine and olive presses. Later Gutenberg became a goldsmith by learning the art of polishing stones and working on moulds. He adopted the technology to invent the press. The Gutenberg press was based on the olive press, and the moulds presented the idea of casting the metal type of letters of the alphabet. The first printing press was invented in 1448. The first book printed by the Gutenberg press was the Bible.
