Sayyid Ahmed Khan established the Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College in Aligarh in 1875. Later on, it was renamed Aligarh Muslim University. However, this university gave access to modern education, including Western science, to the Muslim community. Sayyid Ahmed Khan wanted to offer a contemporary education without sacrificing Islamic principles. It became popular as The Aligarh Movement and significantly influenced educational reforms.
