Detailed Solution

The monsoon arrives at the southern tip of the Indian peninsula generally by the first week of June.
The first week of June marks the beginning of the rainy season in India. The southwest monsoons approach the Indian mainland from the south-lying Indian Ocean. The moisture-bearing winds cause orographic rainfall in India. The two branches - the Bay of Bengal branch and the Arabian Sea branch - cause heavy rainfall during June and July. The unpredictable monsoons sometimes arrive by the end of May or sometime by the second week of June. The coastal state of Kerala has the Western Ghats that act as a barrier to the incoming monsoon winds causing heavy rainfall. It proceeds northwards and causes rainfall in most regions of India.
