Detailed Solution

The most famous reformer,Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar, used the ancient texts to suggest that widows could remarry.
Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, one of the most well-known reformers, suggested that widows could remarry based on ancient literature. British officials followed his recommendation, and a statute allowing widow remarriage was passed in 1856. Vidyasagar was criticised by those who disapproved of widow remarriage, and some even boycotted him. The trend in favour of widow remarriage began to take hold in various regions of the nation by the second half of the nineteenth century. The number of widows who did, however, remarry remained small. Re-Marriage was not universally accepted, and conservative organisations continued to oppose the new law.
