Detailed Solution

The Mughals believed in equal division of inheritance among all sons. The Mughals disapproved of the principle of primogeniture or succession laws, according to which the eldest son received the inheritance from his father. Instead, they adopted the coparcenary inheritance practice of the Timurids which meant the distribution of the inheritance among all the sons equally. However, sometimes even after division of the inheritance among the sons, the empire saw wars of succession taking place with the princes going to battle against each other to take over the throne of the Mughal Empire and become the ruler. For instance, this was seen among Shahjahan and his sons: Aurangzeb, Murad, Shah Shuja and Dara Shikoh.
