Detailed Solution

The Mughals were descendants of two great lineages of rulers. They were descendants of Genghis Khan who died in 1227, the ruler of Mongol tribes in China and Central Asia from their mother's side. They were the successor of Timur, who died in 1404, and the ruler of Iran, Iraq, and modern-day Turkey from their father's side. The Mughals did not appreciate being called Mughal or Mongol because of Genghis Khan's association with the massacre of innumerable people.
On the other hand, they celebrated and were proud of their Timurid ancestry because their ancestors in 1398 had captured Delhi. They even painted their pictures with Timur to show their pride in Timurid's ancestry.
