Detailed Solution

The Muslim League viewed Muslims as a separate nation from the Hindus.
The Muslim League called for 'independent states' for Muslims in 1940. The League started considering Muslims as a distinct 'nation' from Hindus in the late 1930s. The 1937 provincial elections persuaded the League that Muslims were a minority and would always have to take a backseat in any democratic system. Following the Cabinet Mission's failure, the Muslim League planned to launch a massive protest to secure its demand for Pakistan. The 16th of August 1946 was declared "Direct Action Day."
