Detailed Solution

The name of the Mughal king was removed from coins that were minted by a British company.
Mangal Pandey, a teenage soldier, was hanged on April 8, 1857, for fighting his officers in Barrackpore. A few days later, some sepoys from the Meerut regiment refused to participate in the army drill using the new cartridges, which were suspected of being covered with cow and pig fat. For disregarding their officers, 85 spies were discharged and sentenced to ten years in prison. This occurred on May 9, 1857. The reaction of the other Indian soldiers in Meerut was also remarkable. On May 10, the army marched to Meerut's jail and freed the imprisoned sepoys. They assaulted and murdered British officers.
