Detailed Solution

The name Rajput was derived from Rajaputra. The word Rajput was derived from a name called rajaputra which means the son of a ruler. Rajputs had a distinct historical past which became important during the medieval period as they came to India through long distances in search of opportunity. Between the period of the 8th and 14th centuries, the term Rajput was meant for the people belonging to the Kshatriya community. Kshatriya is a caste status which is associated with people doing warrior work. Apart from this, there are other groups like Brahmins, Vaishyas and Shudras who have different occupations. Kshatriyas were not just the warrior people but also there given the status of rulers and chieftains as well.
