The Narmada river is one of the two west-flowing Peninsular rivers. It originates in the Amarkantak Plateau in eastern Madhya Pradesh's Anuppur District. It is the fifth-longest river in the country and follows through the state of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. The Narmada river is considered the traditional boundary between Southern and Northern India. The Narmada basin has an area of approximately 98000 sq km.
