Detailed Solution

The National Convention declared France a Republic on September 21, 1792. The Jacobins organised a large-scale uprising of Parisians in the summer of 1792 who were enraged by the scarcity of food and its high cost. They attacked the Palace of the Tuileries on August 10 in the early hours, murdered the king's guards, and then took the king captive for a number of hours. Later, the Assembly decided to put the royal family in prison. Elections took place. All men aged 21 and older, regardless of wealth, now had the right to vote. The Convention was the name given to the newly chosen Assembly. It declared France a republic and ended the monarchy on September 21, 1792. On the basis of the charge of treason, a court executed Louis XVI. He was publicly executed at the Place de la Concorde on January 21, 1793. Shortly after, queen Marie Antoinette suffered the same fate.
