Detailed Solution

The National Food for Work Programme (NWFP) was launched by the Planning Commission in coordination with the Ministry of Rural Development and the State Governments on November 14, 2004, in 150 of the most backward districts of India. The main objectives of the National Food for Work Programme were to provide underprivileged households with additional services, except for the ones covered under the Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana (SGRY), and to intensify the generation of supplementary wage employment and the provision of food security. This scheme was replaced by NREGA, which came into force in 2006 in 200 of the country's listed districts, including 150 NFWP districts.
