Detailed Solution

The Nazi concept of lebensraum believed that new territories had to be acquired for settlements.
Friedrich Ratzel, a German geographer, created the phrase lebensraum. Ratzel created a theory in the latter two decades of the 19th century according to which all species, including humans, develop essentially as a result of their adaptation to geographic conditions. Ratzel viewed species migration as being the most important factor in influencing social adaptation and cultural change. He reasoned that species that successfully adapted to one environment would naturally spread to others. Adolf Hitler came to believe that Germany needed Lebensraum ('living space') in order to exist. His policies after becoming power was informed by his notion that this living space could only be obtained in the east, and notably from Russia.
