The next Lok Sabha elections will be held in the year 2024.
In India’s democratic system, most elected members stay in power for five years. Article 83 of the Indian Constitution requires the Lok Sabha elections to be held every five years. The representatives are not elected for life. This is so that the people are given a choice to vote their representatives out of power if they are not satisfied with them and so that the representatives do not take their positions for granted. The last Lok Sabha elections (17th) in India occurred in 2019 when the National Democratic Alliance won the majority of seats and formed the government. The tenure of the 17th Lok Sabha will end on June 16, 2024, and the next elections will take place after five years, in 2024, for the 18th Lok Sabha.
