The idea of the non-cooperation movement was given birth after the success of the book 'Hind Swaraj'. Mahatma Gandhi writes it on his way from London to South Africa. The non-cooperation movement came into existence when Mahatma Gandhi openly criticised the cooperation of Indians with the British government, which had given the government immense power to rule and survive in India for so long. He mentions that had there been no cooperation between the Indians and the British government. The colonial government would not have been able to survive in India. He also believed that if all the cooperation provided to them was withdrawn and harsh measures were taken against the British government that was in the hands of Indians, the government would have been driven away from India within a year, and Indians would have gained Swaraj.
