Detailed Solution

The Non-Cooperation movement was launched by Mahatma Gandhi. This movement was started in September 1920 at the Calcutta session of INC. Its only objective was “Swaraj as its ultimate aim”, as said by Gandhiji. In this movement, the surrender of titles, refugees to attend the government darbar, meetings and official functions and boycott of British courts by the lawyers, refusal of government jobs, military jobs, a boycott of foreign goods, civil education services, were used to organise this non -aggressive movement. It spread in most of the region with substantial mass support but the Chauri-Chaura incident in the Gorakhpur district on U.P. February 5, 1922, changed the situation. Gandhiji was shocked by this incident and withdrew from the movement on February 12, 1922.
