Detailed Solution

The northern plains are generally described as flat land with no relief differences. The relief features on these huge plains are extremely different. The Northern Plains can be separated into four regions based on the differences in relief features. Rivers drop pebbles in an 8 to 16 km wide strip parallel to the Shiwaliks' slopes after descending from the mountains. Bhabar is the name given to it. In this bhabar belt, all the streams disappear. The streams and rivers re-emerge south of this belt, forming the terai, a damp, swampy, and marshy environment. This area was densely forested and teeming with wildlife.
