The number of boys and girls in a class is in the ratio 5:4. If the number of boys is 9 more than the number of girls, then the number of boys is 45.
Let the number of girls in class be x.
It is given that number of girls is 9 more than number of girls= x+9.
Also given the ratio of boys and girls in class is 5:4.
Using given condition to find the value of x:
x+9 x = 5 4 4 x+9 =5x 4x+36=5x 5x4x=36 x=36  
Now, number of boys =x+9=36+9=45  .
Hence, the number of boys in class is 45.
