Detailed Solution

The number of elected female representatives in Indian rural and urban areas is more than 10 lakh. Women's representation in  Indian politics is very low. Women's representation in the Lower House has not even increased by ten per cent. The national average of women's representation in politics is about 9% which is very low. Gender stereotypes, competition in politics, lack of political education, work and family, and lack of resources are the main reasons for the low representation of women. But in 1992, 73rd and 74th constitutional amendments were passed, giving women representation rights in India. After that, one-third of seats in local government bodies in panchayat and municipalities were reserved for women. There are more than one million women representatives in rural and urban local bodies.
