Detailed Solution

The number of reserved seats for Scheduled castes and Scheduled tribes in the Lok Sabha is according to the proportion of their share of the population. In Lok Sabha, there are 84 seats reserved for Scheduled Castes(SC) and 47 for Scheduled Tribes(ST). In this system, a constituency is reserved so that a candidate from only the SC or ST community can stand for election. All the people of the constituency choose from those SC or ST candidates. The constitution-makers embraced reserved seats to ensure the representation of the weaker sections.
