Detailed Solution

There are 22 scheduled languages in India.
After independence, the boundaries of the states began to change. New states were formed, and many old states were demarcated. Several states were made based on culture, ethnicity, and geography. Later, there was an increasing demand for the formation of states on a linguistic basis. At that time, it was realized that the Constitution did not give any provisions for the national language. Hindi was declared the official language spoken by 40% of the total population. However, to prevent any social group from feeling alienated and to protect all the languages, the Constitution declared 22 languages, including Hindi, as Scheduled Languages. The languages include Assamese,  Bengali,  Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi,  Nepali, Oriya,  Punjabi, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Bodo, Santhali,  Maithili, and Dogri.
