Detailed Solution

The number went up to 200 million copies in the sixteenth Century. The print revolution occurred when individuals switched from manual printing to mechanical printing using a printing press. This printing press was the brainchild of Johan Guttenburg, who was a German. He made improvements upon the printing technology of China to make the printing press. The cost of books decreased as a result of printing. The time and work necessary to make one book decreased, allowing for the easier production of several copies. The market was swamped with books. Twenty million copies of printed books flooded the European marketplaces in the second half of the fifteenth century. By the sixteenth century, the quantity had risen to almost 200 million copies.
