Detailed Solution

Bond angles among the hydrides of the chalcogen family are justified and explained by Drago. When the central atom belongs to third period or beyond third period and the electronegativity of the surrounding atom is less than 2.5, bonding takes place via pure p orbitals and hybridization does not take place. Thus, except H2O ,other hydrides have a bond angle nearly around 90. Also, when the surrounding atoms are same, as the size of the central atom increases, bond angle decreases. For H2O , Drago's rule is not applicable and bond angle is explained on the basis of hybridization.
