Detailed Solution

Given:

Osmotic pressure of solution, π=8.21 atm

Temperature, T=27=27+273=300K

Osmotic pressure of solution is given by the formula, π=CRT

C = Concentration in mole/litre

R = Universal Gas Constant = 0.0821 L(atm)/mol.K

π=CRT

C=πRT     =8.210.0821×300     =0.33 mole/litre

Concentration = no. of moles/Volume

Here volume is 1 litre.

Concentration = no. of moles = weight / molecular weight

Molecular formula of glucose = C6H12O6

Molecular weight of glucose = 6×12+1×12+6×16=180 gm

Concentration = weight/molecular weight

0.33=weight/180

weight=0.33×180=60 gm

The amount of glucose should be used per litre for an intravenus injection so that it is isotonic with blood is 60 gm.
