The other name for Scheduled Tribes in India is Adivasis.
The Indian Constitution was the first document to use the term "Scheduled Tribes." Scheduled tribes were described in Article 366 (25) as secluded societies that lived in hills and forests and had little contact with the rest of society. According to the 2011 census, there were 10.43 crore tribal people in the nation, or 8.6 percent of the overall population. 10.03 percent of them reside in cities, compared to 89.97 percent who live in rural areas.
