The other name of a diverging lens and a converging lens are concave and convex lens respectively.
In a diverging lens, it diverges the rays after they pass through its focus. But in converging lenses, the converging of light rays take place if those rays pass through the focus. Thus from this lens property, we named diverging lens a concave lens and the converging lens as a converging one.
