In 1299, Osman I, the Turkish leader in Anatolia, founded the Ottoman Empire. It was founded in 1299 and disbanded in 1923, forming Turkey. However, this empire was one of history's most powerful and influential kingdoms. For almost 600 years, this Islamic-dominated powerhouse dominated critical regions of the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and North Africa. The ottomans (literally) were reclining, polished chairs or armless or back benches, typically stacked with cushions and served as the home's primary living space. They were first introduced to Europe in the late 18th century from Turkey (the centre of the Ottoman Empire, hence the name).
