The Oudh Kisan Sabha was set up and headed by Jawaharlal Nehru and Baba Ramchandra In June 1920, Jawaharlal Nehru started going around the villages in Awadh and trying to understand their problems. The Oudh Kisan Sabha was set up in October, and it was headed by Jawaharlal Nehru, Baba Ramchandra, and a few others. Over 300 branches were set up around the region. Congress wanted to integrate the peasants' struggle into a bigger and wider struggle in the non-cooperation movement. When the movement spread to different regions in the village, it became violent. Talukdar's houses were attacked and the bazaars were looted. Some of the local leaders told the peasants that no taxes were to be paid to anyone, and Gandhiji declared it.
