The outermost range of the Himalayas is called the Shiwaliks range. These ranges consist of unconsolidated sediments brought down by rivers from the main Himalayan ranges found further north. These valleys are filled with thick gravel and alluvium. The longitudinal valley, which is located between the lesser Himalayas and the Shiwaliks, is known as Duns. Some popular duns are- Dehra dun, Kotli Dun and Patli Dun.
