Detailed Solution

The ox- bow lakes are formed by meandering rivers. It is a U-shaped lake. When a meandering river corrodes through the neck of one of its meanders, an oxbow lake is created. This occurs due to the way meanders form and curves over time. The U-shaped collar worn around an ox's neck and to which a plough is attached gives rise to the name "oxbow lake." It is also known as a cutoff lake, a loop lake, or a horseshoe lake.
