The Palas, Rashtrakutas and Gurjara Pratiharas fought each other to get control over Kannauj. The Palas, the Pratiharas, and the Rashtrakutas, three of the greatest Indian dynasties, fought each other for dominance of the Kannauj region of northern India during the Tripartite Struggle, also known as the Kannauj Triangle Wars, in the eighth and ninth century. The eastern regions of India were governed by the Palas (the Bengal region), the western regions were under the Pratiharas' control (the Avanti-Jalaor region), and the Deccan section of India was under the Rastrakutas' power. For two centuries, this conflict raged.
