Detailed Solution

The part of Poland where ‘undesirables’ were sent was called the General Government. It was established as a German-occupied zone. The newly conquered Second Polish Republic was divided into three different areas: the General Government in the centre, Polish regions captured by Nazi Germany in the west, and Polish territories controlled by the Soviet Union in the east. With the German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941, the territory grew significantly, including the new District of Galicia. Four of the seven World War II extermination camps, including the neighbouring Majdanek concentration camp, the Sobibor extermination camp, and the Belzec extermination camp, committed the most terrible deeds of the Holocaust there.
