Detailed Solution

The part of the silk making process that is considered as being cruel by animal rights activists is thread extraction.
The process of making silk is called sericulture. Silk is obtained from silkworms. These
silkworms are harvested to obtain silk fibres. The silkworm feeds on mulberry leaves for growth. They stop eating when they are ready to spin their cocoon. Once the silkworm has spun their cocoon, the silk threads are extracted by putting them in boiling water and silk threads are obtained for further processing. This process of thread extraction is considered cruelty on animals by animal rights activists because to obtain thread the cocoon of the silkworm is boiled and in this process the pupae gets killed.
