Ageing or injury, which changes the tissue that makes up the lens in the eye, is the major cause of cataracts. As a result, proteins and fibres present in the lens start to collapse, causing vision to become hazy or cloudy. If a person suffers from a cataract, their eye's lens will become cloudy. Treatment for the cataract is the replacement of opaque lenses with an artificial lens.
