The part of the Himalayas lying between the Satluj and Kali rivers is known as Kumaon Himalayas. These mountain ranges are west-east from the Indus River to the Brahmaputra. These mountains are one of the most rugged mountain barriers in the world. The northernmost range of the Himalayas is known as the Himadri, Inner Himalayas, or the Great Himalayas. South of the Himadri range is the Himachal or lesser Himalaya. The part of the Himalayas from west to east that lies between the Satluj and Kali rivers is known as Kumaon Himalayas.
