Detailed Solution

The partition of Bengal took place in 1905. In July 1905, Lord Curzon, the Viceroy of India at the time, revealed his intention to divide the state of Bengal. The province was divided into West Bengal, which had a majority of Hindus, and East Bengal, which had a majority of Muslims. Muslims supported the division since they would get their own province, but Hindus were against it. The swadeshi movement called for Bengal's unification. The well-known song "Amar Sonar Bangla," written by Rabindranath Tagore, was eventually adopted by Bangladesh as its national anthem during this movement.
