The pastoralist Dhangars live in Maharashtra. They were buffalo herders, blanket weavers, and shepherds. They track their progress between Konkan and the Central Plateau. The Dhangars reside on the central plateau, a semi-arid region. Here bajra is farmed during the monsoon season. After harvesting bajra by October, Dhangars relocate to the prosperous agricultural area of Konkan. The Dahangars, whose flocks use stubble to feed flocks and manure the fields, are welcomed by the Konkani peasants. However, at the start of the monsoon, the Dhangars return to the dry plateau since the flocks cannot endure the Konkan's wet monsoon.
