The pastoralists coped with changes in modern times.
When pasture fields in one location were restricted, they shifted their journey in a different direction. Raikas. For example, they decreased the herd's size. They merged pastoral work with other sources of income and responded to modern-day changes. Wealthier pastoralists began purchasing land and abandoning their nomadic lifestyle. Others became settled peasants who farmed land. Others engaged in more extensive trading. To make ends meet, many poor pastoralists took out loans from moneylenders. Many people gave up their cattle and sheep and went to work as farm labourers or in small towns. After 1947, the camel and sheep herding Raikas could not travel between India and Pakistan due to changing political boundaries. They couldn't go into Sindh and graze their camels on the banks of the Indus like they used to. As a result, they tried to find other areas to visit. They've been relocating to Haryana, where sheep may graze in agricultural areas until the harvest is finished.
