Detailed Solution

The patriotic song sung by volunteers when they marched into Paris is called Marseillaise. On April 24, 1792, during the French Revolution, Claude-Joseph Rouget de Lisle wrote the lyrics to La Marseillaise, the country's national anthem. Every time it was sung at public events during the Revolution, the lively and beautiful hymn left a profound impression. Unfortunately, because of its links with the French Revolution, "La Marseillaise" was outlawed by Napoleon during the French Empire and Louis XVIII during the Second Restoration (1815). Despite being permitted following the July Revolution of 1830, Napoleon III again outlawed it, and it wasn't until 1879 that it was allowed to resume.
