Detailed Solution

The peace treaty at Versailles was a harsh and humiliating peace.
The treaty at Versailles was signed between the allied powers and Germany. According to the War Guilt Clause, Germany was held responsible for the war and the damages the Allies suffered. As per the treaty, Germany had to pay compensation to the Allies, which amounted to 6 billion pounds. Germany lost 13 percent of its territories, a tenth of its population, overseas colonies, and 26 percent of its coal to Poland, France, Lithuania, and Denmark. In addition, the Allies weaken Germany’s power through demilitarisation. The armies of the Allied Powers also occupied a large part of resource-rich Rhineland for a significant portion of the 1920s. Many Germans felt the young Weimar Republic was responsible for the country’s disgrace at Versailles.
