Detailed Solution

The peasant communities of Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. The Civil Disobedience Movement included people from many walks of life. Rich peasant communities, such as the Patidars of Gujarat and the Jats of Uttar Pradesh, were involved in the movement in the countryside. The trade crisis and falling prices particularly heavily struck them because they were commercial agricultural growers. As their cash revenues dwindled, they could not meet the government's revenue demands. And the government's failure to lessen the revenue demand fueled widespread discontent. These wealthy peasants were ardent advocates of the Civil Disobedience Movement, organizing their villages and sometimes coercing reluctant members to join in boycott campaigns.
