Detailed Solution

The peasant movement of Awadh was connected with the Non-cooperation movement.
The people in Awadh initiated the Non-Cooperation Movement under the leadership of Baba Ramachandra against talukdars, merchants and landlords because they exploited peasants. Hence these restrictions also deteriorated the livelihood of Awadh’s locals. Consequently, the peasants and locals got angry due to the demand for high rents and also were not paid for their labour in the fields at home. In June 1920, Jawaharlal Nehru reached out to the peasants of Awadh and set up “Oudh Kisan Sabha” in October 1920 with Ramchandra. They demanded the reduction of revenue, the abolition of begar and redistribution of land and started “Nai-Dhobi bandhs”, in which the barbers and washermen stopped giving their services to the landlords.
