Detailed Solution

The peasants of Kheda could not pay the revenue because of the dual problem of crop failure and plague epidemic. Kheda district in Gujarat saw one of the major Satyagraha movements of the Indian independence movement. The peasants in the district were left helpless after the crop failure and plague epidemic as they could not meet the British state's high revenue tax demands. After successfully organising the Champaran campaign in 1916, Mahatma Gandhi travelled to Kheda and backed the peasants requesting a reduction in revenue demands. It was the year 1917 when the Kheda district Satyagraha was organised.
