The pelvis is a complex bony structure in the human body's lower torso. The human body apart from the head, neck, arms, and legs is referred to as the torso, also known as the human trunk.

The pelvis is made up of four bones: the right and left hip bones (also called coxal or innominate bones), the sacrum, and the coccyx (tailbone). 

These bones join to form the pelvic girdle, which supports the spine and upper body, protects internal organs, and serves as an attachment point for the legs and muscles responsible for lower body movement.
