The people of Nepal had to write a new Constitution to establish Nepal as a democracy.
Nepal's first Constitution was written in 1990. According to this, all the powers of the country reside in the hands of the King. The King made the rules and regulations adopted in the Constitution. People fought to put an end to the monarchy. In 2006, Nepal was declared a democratic country. As there was a change in government from monarchy to democracy, it also required a change in the policies and regulations of the country. So a new Constitution of Nepal had to be drafted. It was done because the older Constitution did not reflect the ideals and aspirations of the people of Nepal.
