Desertic or arid soils are low in organic matter because of sparse vegetation and extreme climate. Desert or arid soils are sandy in texture with a saline nature. Its colour ranges from red to brown with a low organic matter content and moisture due to the dry climate, high temperature, and faster evaporation rate. In some areas, the salt content of the soil is very high, and common salt is obtained from it by evaporating the water. The lower horizons of the soil are occupied by Kankar because of the increasing calcium content downwards, causing restricted water infiltration. This soil is widely found in the Western Rajasthan region and has become cultivable after proper irrigation.
