Blood functions as the primary transportation medium for both oxygen (O₂) and carbon dioxide (CO₂) in our bodies. Approximately 97 percent of the oxygen is conveyed by red blood cells (RBCs) circulating in the bloodstream, while the remaining 3 percent is transported in its dissolved form within the plasma.

 On the other hand, nearly 20 to 25 percent of the carbon dioxide is carried by RBCs, whereas a significant portion, approximately 70 percent, is transported in the form of bicarbonate ions. Additionally, about 7 percent of carbon dioxide is present in a dissolved state within the plasma.
