Detailed Solution

Blood functions as the primary transportation medium for both oxygen (O2) and carbon dioxide (CO2) in our bodies. Approximately 97 percent of the oxygen is conveyed by red blood cells (RBCs) circulating in the bloodstream, while the remaining 3 percent is transported in its dissolved form within the plasma.

On the other hand, nearly 20 to 25 percent of the carbon dioxide is carried by RBCs, whereas a significant portion, approximately 70 percent, is transported in the form of bicarbonate ions. Additionally, about 7 percent of carbon dioxide is present in a dissolved state within the plasma.
