The period between two successive moults of an insect is called a stadium.

Moulting is a physiological process that occurs in insects, It is observed by the periodic shedding of the old exoskeleton and the formation of a new one. An insect may multiple times undergo moulting and the duration between two successive moults is called a stadium. The form of developing insect between two moults is known as an instar. 

Moulting is also known as ecdysis because the insect hormone ecdysone induces moulting in insects.
