Detailed Solution

The periodisation of Indian history by james Mill was unjustified. He thought Europe was the only civilised region and India was uncivilised. james Mill split Indian history into the Hindu, Muslim, and British eras in 1817. It was universally accepted to use this periodisation. But it also received criticism. One significant issue is that, since not all Mughal emperors were Muslims and not all ancient kings were Hindus, it is impossible to categorise an epoch according to the monarch's religion. He considered the British era to be the most ideal. But it was wrong. While the British Empire was in power, Indians were denied equality, freedom, and liberty. His periodisation is, therefore, unwarranted.
